Tenosynovitis

Pulling pain and friction when moving your hand or wrist? Tenosynovitis is caused by overuse—and subsides with the right treatment.

Overview

What is tenosynovitis?

In tenosynovitis (tendovaginitis), the gliding sheath of a tendon is irritated, usually at the wrist or forearm. The cause is typically an unfamiliar or repetitive strain. It is uncomfortable but highly treatable.

Typical symptoms

Pulling pain when moving the affected tendon, sometimes an audible or palpable friction, swelling, and tenderness. Symptoms intensify under load.

Possible causes

Unfamiliar or repetitive strain (such as from new activities, typing, or manual labor), overuse, and unfavorable movement patterns.

Our solution

How ToonyTherapy helps you

First, we calm the irritation through load adjustment and Manual Therapy. Subsequently, we rebuild resilience with dosed evidence-based training and optimize the triggering movements via movement analysis so that the symptoms do not return.

Frequently asked questions

Short-term relief in the acute state of irritation is sensible, but permanent immobilization is unfavorable. Dosed movement promotes healing.
With adjusted loading, tenosynovitis usually subsides over a few weeks.
Gradually increase loads, take breaks, and optimize the triggering movements. We will show you how.
