What is pain on the outer hip (trochanteric bursitis)?
Pain on the outer hip (often referred to as trochanteric bursitis) involves irritation in the region of the greater trochanter of the femur – frequently affecting the tendons of the gluteal muscles and the associated bursa. The technical term is also “Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome”.
Typical symptoms
Pain on the outside of the hip that increases when lying on the affected side, climbing stairs, and after prolonged walking. Pressure on the area is painful.
Possible causes
Overload and muscular imbalances of the hip musculature, weak pelvic stability, unaccustomed stress, and unfavorable movement patterns.
