Knee osteoarthritis (gonarthrosis)

Knee pain due to osteoarthritis? Even with wear and tear, targeted training can achieve a great deal—often more than you think.

Overview

What is knee osteoarthritis (gonarthrosis)?

In knee osteoarthritis (gonarthrosis), the joint cartilage is worn down. Important: The degree of wear on an X-ray says little about pain—many people with osteoarthritis have few symptoms. Movement and strength are the most effective ways to maintain function and reduce pain.

Typical symptoms

Pain with load and start-up pain (e.g., after sitting), stiffness, occasional swelling. Symptoms often increase with prolonged load, but improve with regular movement.

Possible causes

Age, overuse, previous injuries, malalignment, and excess weight. Weak thigh muscles also contribute to symptoms.

Our solution

How ToonyTherapy helps you

In line with clinical guidelines, active therapy is the first choice: With targeted evidence-based training, we strengthen the muscles that protect the knee and improve load tolerance. Manual therapy relieves pain and stiffness, and with neuro-based pain therapy we reduce the fear of movement.

Frequently asked questions

No—quite the opposite. Adapted movement and strength training are the most effective treatment and protect the joint.
Not necessarily. Many benefit from conservative therapy for years. A prosthesis only becomes a topic when symptoms are severe.
No. Dosed movement nourishes the cartilage and strengthens the muscles—resting does more harm.
