Cervicogenic dizziness

Dizziness linked to neck tension? If the dizziness originates in the cervical spine, it can often be treated in a targeted way.

Overview

What is cervicogenic dizziness?

Cervicogenic dizziness is a sensation of dizziness that originates in the cervical spine—for example due to tight muscles and disrupted movement information from the neck. Important: dizziness should always be medically assessed to rule out other causes. If the neck is the source, physiotherapy is highly effective.

Typical symptoms

A diffuse feeling of dizziness or lightheadedness, often together with neck pain and neck tension. It typically worsens with certain head movements or after prolonged sitting.

Possible causes

Tension and dysfunction in the upper cervical spine alter the movement information the balance system receives. Stress and poor posture make this worse.
