Neuroscience-based pain therapy

Pain is
not fate.

We treat chronic complaints at a neurological level – evidence-based, internationally proven, and tailored to you. No symptom treatment. No guesswork. Just targeted therapy that works.

Understanding the problem

Chronic pain –
underestimated, mistreated, curable.

Millions of people in Germany suffer from chronic pain every day. Many have been fobbed off for years with painkillers, injections, or recommendations for surgery – without lasting results.

The reason: Traditional treatment concepts too often think in terms of structures rather than systems. They treat the symptom, not the mechanism behind it.

Modern pain research shows: pain is not purely a physical sensation, but a complex neurological protective system. Anyone who truly wants to treat chronic pain must understand the nervous system – and address it in a targeted way.

That is exactly our approach at ToonyTherapy. With 15,000+ patients treated and international experience from Poland, Slovakia, and England, we bring modern pain therapy to Germany.

Our approach

What is neuroscience-based pain therapy?

Neuro-based pain therapy is a modern, interdisciplinary treatment concept that treats chronic pain based on current findings from neurology, neuropsychology, and pain research.

At its core, it is about specifically modulating the brain’s pain system – not just relieving symptoms. This is done through a combination of manual techniques, therapeutic education (Pain Education), targeted load progression, and neuro-centred activation.

Our approach at ToonyTherapy is based on internationally proven concepts that we have developed through years of experience in Poland, Slovakia, and England. We combine this expertise with a clear commitment to quality: therapy that works – measurable and sustainable.

Activate neuroplasticity

The brain can unlearn pain patterns. We use this mechanism in a targeted way in therapy.

Evidence-based & measurable

All techniques are scientifically grounded and aligned with individual therapy goals.

Individual treatment

No standard protocols. Every treatment is tailored to your specific complaints and goals.

Pain research

How does pain develop –
and why does it become chronic?

Phase 01

Nociception & stimulus processing

Pain receptors (nociceptors) detect tissue stimuli and transmit signals via the spinal cord to the brain. Pain only arises in the brain – as a protective response, not as a direct reflection of damage.

Phase 02

Centralisation & sensitisation

With persistent pain signals, the nervous system adjusts its sensitivity – it becomes hyperexcitable. The spinal cord and brain then respond to even weak stimuli with pain. A key mechanism in chronic complaints.

Phase 03

Chronification & neuroplasticity

Over time, the brain forms fixed pain patterns – similar to habits. The good news: thanks to neuroplasticity, the nervous system can also unlearn these patterns. This is exactly where neuro-based pain therapy comes in.

Target groups

Who is
neuro-based pain therapy suitable for?

Chronic pain patients

People with back, joint, neck, or whole-body pain that has persisted for months or years and has not yet experienced lasting relief.

After injuries & surgeries

Patients who continue to suffer from residual pain or movement restrictions after accidents, surgeries, or injuries, even though the structure has healed.

Athletes & active people

Athletes who want to return to training after injuries or suffer from recurring, performance-limiting complaints and are looking for an evidence-based rehab strategy.

Working professionals & those under stress

People with stress- and posture-related complaints who want to restore their performance – without long downtime.

How treatment works

Three steps against
chronic pain.

01

STEP 1

Assessment & education

We take the time to fully understand your complaints. This includes a detailed assessment as well as an education session about pain mechanisms, neurophysiological connections, and realistic treatment goals.

02

STEP 2

Neuro-based treatment

A targeted combination of manual techniques (HVLA, mobilisation), neuro-centred exercises, and pain modulation. Each session builds on the previous findings and is individually adjusted.

03

STEP 3

Home exercises & sustainability

Guidance on functional home exercises that help you transfer therapy success into your everyday life. The goal is full self-efficacy – not long-term dependence on the practice.

Methods & techniques

Therapy components at a glance.

Pain education

Understanding how pain develops and works – a key component of modern pain therapy that has been proven to contribute to relief.

Manual therapy

Targeted manual techniques to release muscular and fascial tension patterns and to mobilise restricted joints.

HVLA techniques

High-velocity manipulation techniques from chiropractic and osteopathy to increase ROM (Range of Motion), change pain perception, mainly via neurophysiological effects and small biomechanical effects

Neuro-centred exercises

Specific movement interventions that target the nervous system and positively influence the brain’s pain processing.

Functional rehabilitation

Controlled, progressive load progression based on scientific training principles – for a safe return to everyday life and sport.

Movement analysis

Biomechanical analysis of your movement patterns as a basis for targeted load management and therapy planning.

Psychoeducation

Targeted work with mental and emotional pain factors – because chronic pain always has a psychological dimension.

Osteopathic techniques

Gentle, holistic treatment approaches from osteopathy to improve posture and the autonomic nervous system.

Why ToonyTherapy?

Modern pain therapy
with international experience.

We combine current neuroscientific findings with 15,000+ patients treated and years of international practical experience from Poland, Slovakia, and England.

Our therapist is a physiotherapist, Chiropractor DC (PL), and Osteopath DO (PL) – and understands pain in all its complexity. At ToonyTherapy, you do not get standard treatment, but an individual therapy plan that takes your body and your story seriously.

Science & evidence

Treatment based on
current research.

Neuro-based pain therapy is not a trend, but the result of decades of pain research. Concepts such as Pain Neuroscience Education (PNE), Graded Exposure, and central sensitisation treatment are well documented in international journals.

We follow current guidelines and clinical studies – and translate these findings into concrete, practical therapy steps. No promises. Just evidence-based treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ – Your questions about
neuro-based pain therapy.

Traditional physiotherapy often focuses on structural findings – muscles, joints, discs. Neuro-based pain therapy goes one step further: it considers the nervous system as the main actor in chronic pain and includes neurophysiological, psychological, and functional factors in treatment.

That depends on the degree of chronification and your individual goals. Many patients notice the first tangible improvements after just 3–5 sessions. For lasting results with long-standing complaints, we usually plan 8–12 sessions – plus accompanying home exercises.

Services at ToonyTherapy are billed as private services. Privately insured patients may be reimbursed depending on their tariff. Statutory insured patients can book appointments as an IGeL service. Feel free to contact us in advance – we will advise you transparently on the options.

Yes. Even with complaints that have existed for years, neuro-based pain therapy is effective. The brain’s neuroplasticity enables change at any age – provided the treatment is consistent, individual, and focused on the right mechanism.

Our focus areas include chronic back, neck, and joint pain, myofascial conditions, movement restrictions, pain patterns with central sensitization, as well as patients who wish to progress after previous treatments without sustainable improvement. Even if your condition is not explicitly listed here, please contact us – we will assess individually whether treatment is feasible.

In many cases, successful neuro-based therapy leads to a significant reduction in the need for pain medication. Whether and how quickly medication can be discontinued is something you decide together with your doctor. We work complementarily alongside medical care.
